AgriMAXX has been on a mission to change the wheat industry and prove that High Performance Wheat is attainable for all. It is a pleasure to work with growers to profitably produce wheat. As we reflect on the season, the incredible achievements and innovations in wheat genetics stand out.
A Season of Bin-Busting Yields
Matt Wehmeyer, AgriMAXX President, encapsulated the mood best, saying, “The harvest was tremendous over a wide area for the Soft Red Winter crop… Many customers reported record-breaking yields.” The numbers speak volumes. Across numerous states, our growers experienced field averages over 150 bushels per acre. Such figures are not just impressive but revolutionary for soft red winter wheat, especially when compared to the USDA-calculated average wheat yield of 79 bushels per acre for 2022.
What played a part in the great results?
Matt narrows it down to these three factors:
- Cooperative Weather: Nature played its part. The favorable climate conditions acted as a catalyst, propelling the growth and health of the wheat crops.
- Skillful Crop Management: Dedicated growers are intentionally managing the crop for higher yields.
- AgriMAXX’s Genetics: “You have to start with the right genetics to establish yield potential,” observes Matt. The new wheat varieties introduced by AgriMAXX have redefined the standards of yield potential.
Pushing the Envelope with Every Harvest
Our commitment doesn’t waver. “Every year, we move the needle higher, incrementally,” Matt points out. AgriMAXX focuses on selecting superior parent lines. This has borne fruit in the form of better yield potential, enhanced disease resistance, and increased test weight.
Additionally, the AgriMAXX Defender Series and the AgriMAXX Heavyweight Series show a variety’s ability to defend from the disease or produce high test weight. These have become game-changers for farmers. AM 505, 520, 513, and 535 have been staple varieties for growers wanting a heavy test weight in the mid to upper 60’s.
Profitability and Beyond with AgriMAXX
While profitability is important, AgriMAXX wheat varieties bring more to the table. Beyond the immediate financial gains, wheat contributes significantly to soil health, which provides long term value. This dual advantage gives wheat the edge over traditional contenders like corn and soybeans.
Moreover, AgriMAXX varieties are designed to cater to regional needs. Not all farms are created equal. The AgriMAXX lineup is designed to match each grower’s unique needs — soil types, crop rotations, tillage systems, fertility levels, weather patterns, disease and insect pressures, management practices, straw desires and other factors are all analyzed.
In Conclusion
This season has been phenomenal. So what will next season bring? Many farmers are looking to repeat the success of the 2023 wheat harvest.
What we do know is that wheat farmers will continue to push yield levels to new highs. In some areas, growers pushed yields into the 160’s. It will be exciting to see what next year will bring.
